And
an intimate indoor space devised by Sybille Schobel,
a ballet and opera designer, and Natascha Hassel. Their
design embodies fragment two of Sappho´s poetry:
To Aphrodite:
"(Come) here to me from Crete to this holy temple,
where is your charming grove of apple-trees, and altars
smoking with frankincense, and in it cold water sounds
through apple branches, and the whole land is shadowed
by roses, and from shimmering leaves sleep drops down;
in it a meadow grazed by horses blooms with spring flowers,
and the winds blow gently.
Come, Cyprian Goddess (Aphrodite),
take and pour gracefully into golden cups nectar that is mingled with
our festivities." SAPPHO |

most famous classical poet, is the main inspiration for this project.
2500 years ago Sappho established her school for women on Lesvos,
teaching poetry, art and music to women of ancient Greece and write
for the first time in human history about love between women. |
